Pictures! [28 Nov 2007|10:18pm]

I'm not sure if these have been posted yet, but Jennifer Maler has some photos of The Redwalls on her photography website. They must be old since Ben is in them.

a quick heads-up for Chicago area fans [28 Nov 2007|12:16am]

I saw a commercial for the WGN morning news a short while ago and they mentioned something about The Redwalls. I wasn't really paying attention, but I'm assuming they're going to be on the show tomorrow morning. There's no info on the WGN site yet, but I'll keep checking. The morning news is from 5-9am but it's likely that they'll be on between 7-9am.

ETA You can watch their performance here and see some photos of them here.

Let's hope someone fixes the captions/labeling on the photos. :\

I shot some pix, they are HUGE! I will tease you with Justin dressed as the Pope, and if you want to see a few more (and the entire collection will be posted soon), pop into my journal. It's friends only so I'll add you if you like.

In the meantime, here's the Pope :)

Do you have a question for The Redwalls... [24 Oct 2007|05:33pm]

[ mood | cheerful ]

Hey, I'm Lil and I'm going to the SF gig *WILL* interview the band for my developing TV series. It's geared towards other musicians *however* i want to ask a wild card question from fans in my "Ask the Band" segment. I'm looking for GREAT, intelligent questions to ask, questions that you hope will generate lots of discussion from the guys when they answer. I'm going to be asking on Wed., Oct 31st, but would love to collect your Q's by the 30th. If you have Redwalls-specific questions, please post them in comments and I'll pick one or two to ask...also don't forget your NAME, CITY & STATE, and age please. Age is optional :) If your question is picked, I'll get in touch with you and give you details on the answer, etc.

My show will be called "Get Your Sh*t Together" and will be airing in 2008 sometime, possibly on 3 different internet sites. Details on that later :) If you rather email me the question, feel free at booking [at] starstruckpix [dot] com

Hope to hear from you soon & see you at the FILLMORE next week!!

wait a minute... [21 Oct 2007|02:16pm]

[ mood | confused ]

Did Ben leave the band?

There's an article in the Chicago Reader (Thursday, Oct 18th issue) about The Redwalls being dropped from Capitol and there are two photos of Andrew, Justin, and Logan with a new guy, Rob Jensen. The article mentions that he's their fourth drummer, but nothing was written about what happened with Ben.

I've been trying to find info from a reliable source on this, but I haven't had any luck yet. I thought someone here might know what's going on.

I really hope he didn't leave (although it looks like that's the case). :(

"This is just so offensive!" [25 Aug 2007|08:22pm]

[ mood | annoyed ]

I was watching my friend's family thrift/antique store today while they were down near Detroit for an antique show. I was told to play "suitable" music while the store was open, so I did.

So, thinking what was "suitable" and vintage-esque sounding, I played the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, etc. etc. etc.

I thought I would play some vintage-y sounding bands that I like that are current, like Nicole Atkins & the Sea, Locksley, some other bands, and our very own Redwalls. I was hoping maybe people would come up to me and say, "Oooo . . . what do you have playing here? I really like it!" . . . you know, some promotion of sorts (why not practice what I go to school for, right?)

It worked, but not the way I expected. The store had only been opened for about an hour, and I had the Redwalls' The Wall to Wall Sessions playing through the speakers. It wasn't too loud, and I made sure not to play anything with cursing, or controversial topics by them . . . because my hometown is conservative and I didn't want people crying about it. I know W2W doesn't have any of that.

So, "Edge of the Night" was playing, and this woman comes up to me asking if the older woman around the store was the owner [she was loading clothes and jewelry into her truck for the trip to the antique show, so she was there at the time.] I said yes, and asked if I could help her with something. The lady says, "This music . . . it's just so offensive. It's loud and unsuitable and I just feel so offended by it." [She's holding some milk white antique glass in one hand and waving the other all over like she was a Southern woman from the 1920s about to pass out from overexposure to the heat.] I looked at her, shocked by what she said, and responded with, "OH! I'm so sorry . . . uh . . . let me change it."

So, someone please tell me, how the hell is "Edge of the Night" offensive? It's about moving on and changing . . . it happens a lot. And the music wasn't even loud.

If the owner wasn't behind me, I would have told her, "What's your deal? Are you here to shop or to criticize the music?"

I could understand if I were playing "What a Shame" ['cause it's loud], or "Glory of War" ['cause it's about war and my hometown wouldn't agree with it]. But "Edge of the Night"?

Come on, now.

Ridiculous . . . I can't wait to get back to Chicago where people appreciate music.

On the up side, everyone else liked the Redwalls.

Anyway, just thought I would share this with you all. Thought you might either get a kick out of it or be as baffeled as I am.

[ mood | hungry ]

I went to the show in Champaign last Saturday at the Cowboy Monkey. It was one of the best shows I've seen. The crowd was pretty lame but there was a lot of energy from the band and they all seemed like they were having a good time. The setlist was pretty typical:

Love Her
Back Together
Put Us Down
What A Shame
Edge of the Night
They Are Among Us
Game Of Love
On My Way
Falling Down
Modern Diet
Build A Bridge
In The Time Of The Machines
Bizzare Love Triangle
Thank You
Deep in the Heart

the date of the cd release has been pushed back from October 9th to October 23rd. hopefully it won't be pushed back any longer.

Videos [22 Jul 2007|07:56pm]

[ mood | blah ]

Here is the video I said I would post earlier.

Also, here is a video that I took of the Redwalls performing Build a Bridge at the Belmont Arts & Music Festival last month.

Sorry the quality is a bit shotty. YouTube likes to do that to my videos for some reason.

[ mood | busy ]

Uh . . . it seems that this group has been inactive in almost a year . . . so I'm going to try to get it going again . . .

I saw the Redwalls last night at the Sheffield Garden Walk in Chicago. They were very good, as they usually are. I took a lot of photos, if anyone is interested.

Click on the photo to go to the album.

I also took a video of Balinese, but I have yet to upload that to YouTube.

Anyhow, they're going on tour out West in a week or so. So all of you out there should go see them. They have all of their tour dates on their MySpace page, so see which show is closest to you.

And, that's about it for now. Once I upload that video, I'll post a link to it.

Did anyone else EDIT:: watch Bedford Diaries and hear a familiar intro at the beginning? Yup, they played a good part of "It's All Right." I was pretty excited.
That is the first time I have ever heard our boys on a soundtrack type.
